poem for me
I have been hard on my soul this week. A breakthrough happens and I enjoy it not for long though, I want to be happy even if i'm not totally sure what that is. It feels like a bad song title only it's not I want to know what love is kinda put happiness in there and that's my goal. Part of me is in new york the part with youth and fun. The part that's serious is in school learning all I can. A promise i have is one day the two aides will mesh.

reaction
Since I wrote my Confession it has been a complete release for me. I had no idea how much pain I was holding on to. I forgave myself for not saying goodbye in the traditional way. I realize he is always a part of me. I must allow myself to live a life.

packet
I really enjoyed reading about the cofession poems. My favorite poet is Sylvia plath because she was honest about her feelings even if it makes her poetry seem dark. It felt like a major relief after I wrote mine So thanks for the chance.
#2 Elegy
Last night I was thinking of a friend who died last year. I thought I would attempt an Elegy. We are friends though I can not see you. I miss talking to you and sharing our lives' dreams. You felt your life would be short. I understand that thought now. I think I can learn a lesson from your example. live life to the fullest you see me now and want to whisper those words. God that sounds so cheesy Ok i tried.

Today was cool hearing Kristen change the ones you love that has to be my favorite. I like the conversation style. It reminds me of my friends too. The most odd was the night I tied up my lover it talked about fashion it was funny

free
I was thinking about what people said about elegies. I think everything that is written is inspired by someone either direct or indirect. So even though an elegy is written in remembrance everything is tinged with the feeling. Every book is dedicated to family or friends. It all goes back to write what you know.

prose poems today
Marshall's story was really funny I liked the cursing part made it seem more real. I also liked Larue's idea of a romantic story, it was a different side of her. It shows her range of writing abilities.

elegy for chocolate
Now I know Chocolate is not a man or woman, but the soul is deep and dark.
It can be smooth or chunky
if it's ice cream I like creamy many layers which hide many surprises.
some nuts whipped topping or syrup give the surface depth.
Each layer helps me return to the inner me.
Think about my hopes and dreams.
the one problem is it does not help my hips.
so it is my secret passion.

poems today
I'm ready glad the poems were funny today. I liked Deborah's Facebook play it's funny how people actually write this stuff. It's kind of the voyeur side of us all. I don't think we mean to be curious it's just human nature. I like Shan's idea of tips for women and men about dating.

lost and found poems today
I really liked the poems by Brittany and Ashley they both used the form well. The bowling theme was interesting you know it's about bowling but the use of numbers made my mind want to guesss the rest of the story. Ashley's poem may have been cynical but it does make you think. It is true the magazines have all those lists.

I really had fun talking about the poems yesterday. I couldnt believe how many things people got out of my poem. I find that finding something I like is a good start. I really want to try writing a gazal seems easy.

poem
I wrote a sestina for class. I think I did good, but the rhyme scheme is hard. I focused on the colors of my pictures. I had a lot of purple so I used red and blue. I'm happy that I told a story throughout. It may be simplistic but it uses different words.

#1 Cestina
I like this form it can be a song. I had no idea troubadors used them, I thought they made up their material. Troubadors seem more popular as well. I had the picture they were only in small towns. The galaz is an african chant it is written in Urdu. Every culture has their rhymes

#3 jazz
I really like how Billy Collins is able to use music in his poetry. I like three blind mice and 'Diane even though it doesn't have any lyrics the music makes any one want to dance. I saw a beautiful ballerina dancing around. It also makes me feel very peaceful.

best Collins poem
"This much I remember" I really like the way he expresses the color orange. It takes a lot of talent to see something so ordinary and make it come alive. It takes a stroke of genius then teetering to get something right. I try the write what you know approach i must be doing something wrong. I really do want to grow as a poet im going to try being more bold.

#1 Feb 15
I like Billy Collins' poems they seem like everyday life I feel connected to most of these poems. I tend to write while thinking stream of consciousness I dont worry about forms while I write. The poem about river Susquehanna seems like a thought I would have about Paris I want to go but I probably never will. The whole idea is like a dream

#3 funny Line
in the past week I heard 2 lines that out of context would be hilarious. One is I slid into him and he slid into me. Also do you do it without thinking those were crazy.

Villanelle
I don't quite understand this form it makes me kind of nervous. I want to repeat the right words I always write from the heart so the thought that it's like a song confuses me. i'm always confused I want to do my best and not sure how to.

rhymes
I think it's cool how we remember songs from our childhood. I mean the songs we sing and the nursery rhymes. Most good songwriters are able to tell a whole story within a 4 minute song and it's really common words that we tend to relate to better. A chorus is just a string of words repeated throughout a song.

#2 words
I know it seems like I've talked about words and their order, but in world lit we discussed how Virgil either shortened parts or changed them. One theory is trying to get a heroic message a way to inspire people. If Aeneus doesn't look brave and able to meet challenges then he'll lose part of his tribe. So the end result is words have power and order promotes changes.

Feb 1 #1 sonnets
I'm starting to understand how difficult it is to write sonnets. I thought it had to be all hearts and flowers, but I wrote it based on a story I heard and it felt more authentic. I like the story feeling of a poem , you can tell a whole idea in a format. I love that and no one can say one person is wrong because your life is your experience.

fun knowledge
Through taking classes I've found each one builds on the one before. I like the feeling that I know something but I can still grow. I'm gaining information and hope to pass it on. I enjoy the power of words I think it's fun to play around with their order and how the order determines the stress we place on them. you can say I love you or I love you. I'm a food lover and I notice the language they use in commercials to emphasize certain things. The first thing that enters my mind is delicious red apples or fresh vegetables.

week Of January 23 #2
I like the varying lengths of poems by Marie Howe that all seem to be couplets to me I'm not sure if this was a conscious decision. The rhyme scheme is hard to pick up. I like the story format of some of the poems. She talks to her sister and I like the personal touch I had no idea about all the family issues until I read the poems.

week Of January 23 #!
I read all the poems and some were easier than others. I understood the subject matter, but the subject the poems are directed to is unclear. I liked the poem about a normal day in winter it can be applied to anyone. We all enter routines in life for work it's a good thing but when you go home everyone needs excitement. If you enter a routine it's human nature to try to change it up.

poem #2 for week of January 18
Fear
I feel like I straddle two worlds.
I want to be free from this chair.
People do not stare.
Sometimes I do not fit
I used to say I quit
But now I am just me
the woman I am meant to be
I feel like I straddle two worlds.
I want to be free from this chair.
People do not stare.
Sometimes I do not fit
I used to say I quit
But now I am just me
the woman I am meant to be

Week Of January 18 first post
I read the stanza packet and I'm confused. I thought there would be more info other what each one is. I wrote my poem and now I'm thinking of breaking up the lines. I guess it's true a writer is her own worst critic. Write your own truth right?

#3 Free Saturday
On Thursday I overheard a conversation while waiting on the elevator. I had an image in my head, I would take the part I heard and invent the first part. This would be funny if nothing else. I found the most helpful method in writing poetry is being true to myself. In school teachers said write what you know, and now it makes sense.

#2 Friday
I found the poem BFF?? confusing as a reader. We have all been through similar situations, but there was no resolution at the end. My intial reaction is the person is not a friend if someone can not be themselves around you.. I think the title is an attempt to appear more modern but it feels like a ploy.

#1 poems
I like the poem about the father's ashes and the stanza about memories. I think everyone can have memories it's just how you choose to see them. The main idea is to cherish the time you have with loved ones. It reminds me of September 11th 2001 life is so fleeting enjoy every moment.
